When to collect your sample
The sample must be collected in the morning, on a Monday - Thursday while fasting using the home collection kit* provided and returned and returned on the same day.
Fasting means that you take the sample in the morning before you have breakfast. You can still drink water when fasting. Always follow the advice of your doctor with regard to fasting, particularly if you have any medical conditions.
Symptoms
Symptoms of Omega 3/6 Deficiency may include:
Irritability
Dry skin and hair
Brittle nails
Poor attention and/or concentration
Fatigue
Heightened sleep disturbances
Joint pain and discomfort
Who should be tested
Omega 3 testing examines the blood for arachidonic acid (ARA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), by identifying levels of ARA and DHA. This can determine whether you have an optimal ratio of Omega 3 and 6 in the system.
You should be tested if:
You are curious about eating for health
You notice that your hair, skin, and nails are poor quality
You feel tired all the time with no explanation
You can't concentrate on an ongoing basis
You have a family history of heart infection
You follow a vegan or vegetarian diet
You feel chronically fatigued
What's measured
Omega 3
Omega 3 fatty acids are the "good fats" found in oily fish, nuts, and seeds that can help to protect the body against heart infection, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Omega 6
Omega 6, when eaten in moderation as part of a healthy diet is good for you. Too much omega 6 can cause high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart infection. Omega 6 is found in polyunsaturated foods such as butter and vegetable oils.
