Know your symptoms
Vitamins and minerals, also called micronutrients, are the building blocks for good health. People who do not have enough of these essential nutrients develop micronutrient malnutrition, which can be devastating.
Although only required by the body in small amounts, minerals are essential for proper growth and development, preventing infection, and your overall wellbeing. Most people with a mild mineral deficiency or excess will not experience any symptoms, so regular testing is key to understanding your levels.
You should take the Mineral Test if:
- You want to identify areas for improvement of your overall health
- You follow a vegetarian or vegan diet
- You have recently excluded a particular food group from your diet
- You are over 50 years of age
- You are experiencing symptoms of a deficiency
- You have a condition that may impact the absorption of nutrients such as coeliac or Crohn’s infection
- You have problems absorbing nutrients from your diet
- You are taking certain medications that impact the absorption of some minerals
The Micronutrient Test can provide comprehensive insights into your diet, enabling you to quickly and easily identify and resolve any deficiencies. Anyone can develop a micronutrient deficiency. However, some may be at increased risk, including those following a vegan or vegetarian diet or as a result of conditions such as coeliac and Crohn’s infection that impair the absorption of food. Your nutritional requirements may change as you age or as a result of certain medications.

Copper
Deficiency: Copper deficiency is uncommon but can cause anemia, high cholesterol, affect bone health, balance problems and increase your risk of infection.
Excess: Long-term exposure to high levels of copper can cause stomach pains, diarrhoea, and liver and kidney damage.
-
Selenium
Deficiency: Selenium deficiency is very rare, it may make some people more susceptible to certain problems including heart problems, arthritis, and male infertility.
Excess: Too much selenium causes selenosis, a condition that in its mildest form can lead to loss of hair, skin, and nails.
-
Zinc
Deficiency: A zinc deficiency can result in an impaired immune system, hair loss, diarrhoea taste abnormalities, and loss of appetite.
Excess: High zinc intake can result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and headaches and may impact the amount of copper the body can absorb.
-
Magnesium
Deficiency: Symptoms can include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weakness. A severe deficiency may impact the rhythm of the heart or cause seizures.
Excess: High doses from supplements or medications can result in diarrhoea, nausea, and abdominal cramping and can be extremely harmful.
-
Vitamin D
Deficiency: A lack of vitamin D can lead to bone problems such as osteomalacia or osteoporosis.
Excess: Excess levels can be toxic and impact the level of calcium, causing vomiting, muscle weakness, kidney stones, and other serious health complications.
-
Vitamin E
Deficiency: A deficiency can cause nerve and muscle damage and vision problems and impair the immune system.
Excess: There is limited research relating to the impact of excess vitamin E however some studies have shown that there could be an increased risk of bleeding as a result of excess levels.
